Applications and advancements of Medical Biotechnology
Course Summary
Medical biotechnology is a branch of medicine that uses living cells and cell materials to research and then produce pharmaceutical and diagnosing products. These products help treat and prevent diseases. From cancer research to agriculture advancements, medical biotechnology has many promising avenues of technological growth that have the potential to help many people. Some of the most recent uses of biological tech is work in genetic testing, drug treatments, and artificial tissue growth.
Learning Outcome
- Describe the concepts of molecular biology and biotechnology.
- Describe the insertion of genes into a patient’s cells in order to replace the defective one.
- Describe the genes that code for enzymes that metabolize drugs and the design of tailor-made drugs adapted to an individual's genetic make-up.
- Discuss the application of biotechnology to diagnosis and testing in modern healthcare contexts.
