As pharmacist, students will be faced with the drugs that are specifically meant for veterinary services, and the student will be introduced to this subject with this topic. This module will introduce the students to veterinary pharmacy and its related fields. It will provide them with the knowledge of the main diseases affecting domestic animals and pets and the treatment of these conditions. The various veterinary dosage forms of drugs and animal health care products that are available are discussed.A variety of teaching methods are used comprising lectures and tutorials. The varied methods enable students to develop more easily both module aims and transferable skills.At the end of the programme, students are given an opportunity to evaluate the module and the lecturer.
At the end of this module, the students will be able to:
1. Explain the use of drugs in animal care and rules for drug supply and usage.
2. Compare the basic differences in anatomy and physiology of domestic and pet animals compared to humans.
3. Explain the main infectious diseases that infect domestic animals and pets, give the factors that can encourage infections and describe their symptoms.
4. Describe the external and internal parasites that infect domestic animals and pets, food deficiency diseases and metabolic dysfunction.
5. Describe how to prevent animal borne diseases from infecting human beings and animals.
6. Categorize animal health food preparations, and dosage form of drugs available for treating animals and specific delivery systems.
