CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY I
Clinical biochemistry (also known as chemical pathology, clinical chemistry or medical biochemistry) is the area of laboratory medicine that is generally concerned with analysis of body fluids. Clinical biochemistry is the branch of pathology concerned with the biochemical investigation of disease for the prevention, diagnosis, prognosis and management of disease. The clinical biochemistry section is usually largest section of a pathology laboratory. The techniques applied include the use and measurement of enzyme activities, spectrophotometry, electrophoresis, chromatography, immunoassay and molecular biology.
LABORATORY MANAGEMENT
The course introduces students to laboratory management, relevant quality systems (ISO 9001 & ISO/IEC 15189), Total Quality Management (TQM), and Benchmarking. Emphasis on quality is approached in terms of theory, process, and implementation towards an excellent management system. Students will also learn the importance of test utility, method evaluation, and evidence-based laboratory medicine and be introduced to the importance of the environment impact of laboratories.
